The Christmas toy giveaway. Date and location are still being confirmed. Volunteers are needed for sorting, wrapping and handing out on the day, and donations of new unwrapped toys are always welcome.
Every toy handed out in December was given by somebody in or around Maxton. There is no budget behind this and no warehouse — the tables are as full as the town makes them. If you would like to give, here is exactly how, and the earlier the better: what arrives in October gets sorted, and what arrives on the day mostly does not.
What is actually needed
Call 910-240-4822 or email maxtonrecreation@gmail.com and we will tell you where to bring it, or come to you. We collect at Commission events through November and December — the calendar has the dates as they are confirmed.
A church, a shop counter, a waiting room, a break room, a club. This is the one that fills the tables. Tell us and we will bring you a marked box and a poster, agree a date to come and empty it, and you do nothing else. If your congregation would give one Sunday to it, that alone is worth more than anything we can do on our own.
If you would rather buy for a particular child than drop something in a box, tell us the age and whether you are shopping for a boy, a girl or either, and we will tell you what we are short of. Teenagers are short every single year.
Wrapping paper, tape, gift bags, batteries and storage bins all get bought every year and would rather not be. So do a few hours on sorting and wrapping day — the volunteer form below covers that.
A box on your counter, a staff collection, or an offer to match what the town brings in. Businesses that support a Commission event are listed on our sponsors page, and we would rather that list were longer.
Everything for this event goes through the form(s) below, so it all lands in one list. No phone tag, and nobody gets missed.
No experience, no commitment beyond the day. Tell us when you can be there and what you are willing to do, and we will slot you in.
