What We Run

Recreation programs

The Commission is charged with creating, establishing and operating Maxton's recreation program, and with supervising every recreational facility the town owns or administers.

Sports

Sports — through Robeson County

The Commission does not run sports programs. All sports in Maxton go through Robeson County Parks & Recreation, who also own and maintain Rob Henderson Park. Contact them directly to register or ask about a season.

Community

Community events

Town-wide gatherings, seasonal celebrations and recreation days open to every resident.

Grounds

Parks & facilities

Upkeep and supervision of Beacham Park on West Carolina Street and the other town-owned recreational grounds. Rob Henderson Park is owned and maintained by Robeson County Parks & Recreation, not the Town.

What We Put On

The kinds of events we run

A town of two thousand people does not get a busy calendar by accident. Someone has to book the field, borrow the tables, chase the permit and stand at the gate. That is mostly what the Commission is.

Town-wide

Community nights

Evenings the whole town is invited to — National Night Out, seasonal celebrations, and gatherings that give neighbours somewhere to actually meet.

Seasonal

Festivals

The Collard Festival each November at Beacham Park, plus holiday events and the one-off days that come with a good idea and enough volunteers.

Seasonal

Parades & holiday days

The Christmas parade down Main Street, the dinner that follows it, and the community days open to every resident of the town.

Grounds

Park days and clean-ups

Work mornings at Beacham Park and the other town grounds — less glamorous, and the reason the other events have somewhere to happen.

Every one of these is on the calendar with its own page, the full details and the sign-up forms. What has already happened is on Past Events.

Beacham Park

Beacham Park on West Carolina Street is the Commission's home ground, and the site of the town's Collard Festival each November.

If a program you want isn't running, tell us. A good share of what the Commission does started with one resident asking.
