The Recreation Commission is a volunteer group of Maxton residents. Donations pay for the things people actually see — equipment, supplies, food and prizes at community events.

Give in person, or in kind
Not everything useful is money. Water, ice, tables, canopies, printing and prizes are all things we buy every year and would rather not. If you can supply something instead, call 910-240-4822 or email maxtonrecreation@gmail.com and we will tell you what is actually needed for the next event.
What we will not do is tell you how to treat it on your taxes. The Commission is not able to advise anyone on that, and the accounting treatment is still being confirmed with the Town. Please ask your own accountant.
The Christmas toy drive
The December toy giveaway runs entirely on what the town gives — there is no budget behind it. The thing we need is new, unwrapped toys, and the one nobody thinks of is a gift for a teenager, which we are short of every year.
The most useful thing anyone can do is not give one toy but collect a boxful: at a church, a shop counter, a waiting room or a break room. We bring you a marked box and a poster, agree a date to come and empty it, and that is the whole commitment. Churches, businesses, workplaces and clubs are all welcome — call 910-240-4822 or email maxtonrecreation@gmail.com and we will set it up.
Give early rather than late. Toys that arrive in October get sorted; toys that arrive on the day mostly do not. Full details are on the toy giveaway page.
Where it goes
Every donation is recorded against the event or the purpose it was given for, and reported back at a Commission meeting. If you want your gift to go to something specific — a particular event, or the parks — say so when you give it and we will hold you to it.
